New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) With his health improving, formerSamajwadi Party leader and an accused in the 2008 cash-for-votes scandal Amar Singh was Sunday discharged from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here and went to his residence.
Amar Singh, who was admitted to AIIMS Sep 12 due to an infection in his kidneys transplanted in 2009, was taken in an ambulance to his Lodhi Estate home, accompanied by his aide and Rampur MP Jaya Prada.
A bearded Amar Singh was welcomed home by his children, amid slogans from supporters belonging to his outfit Lok Manch.
He had been granted bail by the Delhi High Court Oct 24 on humanitarian grounds. He had been arrested Sep 6 for his alleged involvement in an attempt to bribe MPs ahead of the July 2008 parliament trust vote, in what came to be known as the cash-for-votes case.
Later, Amar Singh told reporters that he may have to go back to AIIMS for a check-up on Nov 3, when the doctors will tell him if he needs to get re-admitted in the hospital.
He also noted that he would be appealing before the court to let him fly to Singapore for treating his infection, which he claimed had worsened while he was in Tihar Jail after his arrest.
'I will seek the permission of the court to go to Singapore for treatment. If the court permits, then I will fly to Singapore to get the infection treated completely,' he said.
He also appealed to the media not to refer to him as a former Samajwadi Party leader, saying he did not want his name to be associated with that party any more. 'Please refer to me as Lok Manch activist,' he added.
